Guard Loses Memorial Cup Ring!

While former Kelowna Rocket Travis Moen was prancing around on the ice in delight after winning the Stanley Cup last night with Anaheim, another Rocket alumni was watching from the press box with a frown on his face.
Kelly Guard was at the Honda Centre for game five, as a member of the Ottawa Senators 'taxi-squad' or as some may know it as 'the black aces'.
Guard has been behind the scenes practicing with the Sen's since his season came to an end with Ottawa's American Hockey League affiliate, just in case Ray Emery or Martin Gerber were injured in the run towards the Stanley Cup.
Last night's result brings to an end a frustrating month for the Prince Albert, Saskatchewan resident, who helped the Rockets win the 2004 Memorial Cup.
Not only did his team lose the cup to the Ducks of Anaheim, but Guard lost his Memorial Cup ring!
Guard had his truck stolen 3 weeks ago, and among the items in the vehicle were the ring that brings back such good memories of his time in Kelowna.
While the loss of the Stanley Cup, the Memorial Cup ring and his truck are weighing heavy on his mind, Guard is also wondering about his future with the Senators.
His contract is up, meaning his agent Don Meehan will be busy, either talking about a new deal with the Sen's, or moving on to a different market where his client will get a chance to play.
Since signing with the Senators, Guard has never seen action in a regular season game. He's backed up, but has never seen NHL ice.
Note: I spoke to Kelly while he was literally in the jet ready to head back to Ottawa. Interesting that the Sen's elected to spend the night in Anaheim before flying out this morning for the 5 hour trip back to the nations capital.
