Update on Dowzak

The New York Rangers just called me and said Tysen Dowzak is going to main camp with the Hartford Wolf Pack. The Rangers A-H-L affiliate opens camp on the weekend.

Hi Regan, Does it seem likely that Dowzak will spend the year in the AHL? If he does not make the NHL, does he not has some sort of contractual obligation to the Rockets? I'm aware of how the rules work for under-agers like Schenn (ie. either stick w/ the NHL or back to Junior), but how does it work for over-agers?

Also, love your Blog. Best source for Rockets info. Keep up the good work.

In order for Dowzak to play in the AHL this season he would have to be under contract. He has yet to sign obviously. But that said, the Rangers must think highly of him to send him to Hartford for a look-see. I understand the Rangers have a limited number of contracts they can hand out - 50 - if I am not mistaken to both NHL and AHL players. But it can happen. Swift Current Broncos 20 year-old Dale Weise just signed a deal with the Rangers this month, and won't return to the WHL as an overage.

Regan is correct.

The Rangers currently have 46/50 players under contract. (NHL/Minor leagues/prospects) That number includes the signing of Weise, and the release of Petr Nedved.

The Rangers still currently have Ivan Baranka and Chris Holt as RFAs.
