Myers Will Play In Game One

The Western Hockey League will not be suspending Rockets defenceman Tyler Myers for a hit on Vancouver Giants Craig Schira in game six. Myers was given a five minute major and game misconduct for checking from behind in that game.

A very unfortunate outcome to very hard hit. I do hope that Schira heals quickly and that his wrist injury does not prevent him from progressing with his career. I think the league is correct in their decision.

I am sure Bruce Hamilton had his say on the issue and the Giant shared their opinion, all behind closed doors.

Let's try this again Regan. I have no idea why you would scrutinize my last message. Do you not have a sense of humor or is it because you do not like an adversarial point of view.

People remember fan is short for fanatic. I live and work in the Okanagan, used to play in the Dub, and love the game, not necessarily the hometown Rockets. The Meyers hit definitely required supplemental disciplinary action. He ran from outside the Van blueline while his teammates made a line change and shoved Shira head first into the end boards. A one game suspension would have satisfied "hockey people." Talk to players and personel from other whl teams and even scouts from nhl teams -that hit warranted action.

Regan, how many points did Meyers earn from you this time? You do seem to have a track record of being an apologist for the Rocket players.

Hockey fans, it's a good idea to get different perspectives and opinions re: our Kel players. If you don't acknowledge what true "hockey people" have to say even look at other media sites and see what longtime whl observers who are passionate about the game and not necessarily about their team. Crazed Rockets fans, why are we the only ones who saw it as a clean hit. For ex. look at Alan Caldwell's take on last night's ot winner and Meyers careless/selfish hit. I must agree with him on both counts. Sure the Rockets were the better team for the bulk of the 6 games but that doesn't mean the Giants don't have some legitimate disputes as well. Perhaps Doerksen and the league wanted Kelowna to avoid a 7th game in order to get rested to make the Dub Final more competitive. Bruce Hamilton was on with Dan Russel last night and even went as far as to say upon reflection he thinks the Meyers hit should have been only assessed a double minor. That is disgusting and insulting to hockey fans everywhere, including here in Kelowna. Bruce Hamilton is a man who has earned the respect of many people in hockey circles but i must respectfully and vehemently disagree with him and side with the majority of rational minded in hockey.

Whenever my old buddies from the whl days (many who went to the nhl) get together for alumni events we often bring up the fact that many crazed fan(atics) are more rabid than the players and the organizations themselves when it comes to a win at all costs attitude. Bruce Hamilton, Regan Bartel, and the 1%'ers please remember to enjoy the beuaty and the spirit of the game.

Regarding your poll.. I would defintely have chosen Backlund over Meyers as the mvp. Not to diminish what Tyler did against Kane, he definitely was a stud all series long but to me Backlund ingited the team with his electrifying speed and sharp shooting prowess. Perhaps I am also persuaded by the hit Meyers took in game 6 which could have been very costly to the Rockets. Come to think of it Backlund took a fair number of penalties during this series as well.

I do wish the Rockets well against The Hitmen and in Rimouski.

Well I quess Richard Doerksen said it best after reviewing all the replay's with all the power's that be!! Should of only been a double minor!! Enough said on that subject, let's get on with the next round!! Go Rockets!!!
