Pulkkinen A Rocket

The Rockets have selected 1992 born Finnish player Teemu Pulkkinen in today's CHL import draft.
Pulkkinen is a 5'10 - 170 pound left winger. Pulkkinen is undrafted.

Wikipedia
has this information on him:

Pulkkinen
competed for Finland at the
2009 IIHF World U18 Championships in the United States. He recorded 13 points in 6 games to finish third in tournament scoring behind teammate Toni Rajala and Russian Vladimir Tarasenko, helping Finland to a bronze medal

Probably should hold off having video or audio of this guy. Seems more appropriate to do this in a year since thats when could be coming. Not sure why they would draft a guy who cant even play this year. Its one thing to draft a Backlund but this guy aint a Backlund.

Stupid pick

From the research I've done, it appears Pulkkinen could be a first round pick in the NHL draft next year. No, that does not make him a Backlund, but being a possible 1st rounder shows Pulkkinen is no flash in the pan.

You have a wrong Pulkkinen in the picture. It seems to be a picture of a football (soccer) player from Jyväskylä, not a hockey player from Helsinki.

It doesn't seem likely that the real Teemu Pulkkinen would be heading to WHL next year. As the Rockets GM said on their homepage:

"Due to contractual obligations, he’ll most likely remain in Finland next season. That being said it’s our goal to bring him here for Training Camp in August."

Having witnessed Pulkkinen a few times, I have to say that he is probably the most talented sniper from Finland since a certain other Teemu. Having said that, there are still things he needs to work on.

(I'll be watching him closely next year and I try to keep my blog up-to-date.)
