Game notes vs. Bruins

Tonight’s Preview: The Kelowna Rockets open the month of February with a game against the Chilliwack Bruins. It is the fourth meeting of the season between the two teams, yet the first time they have met since December 3rd. The Rockets are 2-1-0-0, having out-scored the Bruins 15-9. Following tonight’s game, the two teams collide February 11th, 12th and March 4th and 13th. Tonight’s game is the third of seven straight games against teams in the BC Division. The Rockets are in Prince George for back-to-back games this weekend before hosting Chilliwack again on Friday February 11th. Overall the Rockets have won six straight and have scored five or more goals in five of their last six home games. The Rockets are attempting to record 30+ wins for the 15th time in the franchises 20 years in the WHL.

Rockets recent game: Geordie Wudrick scored three times leading the Rockets to a 7-3 win over the Vancouver Giants Saturday night. Cody Chikie chipped in with three assists while Adam Brown made 24 saves in the victory. The Rockets scored five-third period goals in the win. Kelowna was 1 for 5 on the power play and didn’t allow a power play goal against. The Rockets out-shot the Giants 35-27.

Who’s Hot: Zach Franko is riding a team high thirteen game point streak. Franko has 9+9=18 over that period…Shane McColgan has points in 13 of his last 15 games….Mitchell Callahan has 8+11=19 in his last twenty-one games…Brett Bulmer has a nine game point streak (4+10=14). Geordie Wudrick had ten goals in the month of January. In November he had 11. Amazingly, Wudrick had one goal in October.

January Jam: Zach Franko led the Rockets in January with 18 points (9+9=18). Geordie Wudrick (10+5=15) and Brett Bulmer (5+10-=15) each had 15 points. Cody Chikie (4+7=11), Mitchell Callahan (4+7=11) and Shane McColgan (6+5=11) each had 11 points respectively.

This and That: Zach Franko’s thirteen game point streak is third longest active point streak in the WHL this season…..The Rockets are nine games above the .500 mark for the first time this season…..Shane McColgan leads the Rockets in road points with 20. McColgan is followed by Brett Bulmer (19) and Zach Franko (16)….Franko had nine goals in January after scoring just once in December…..The Rockets are riding a six game winning streak heading into tonight’s game. The Rockets won six in a row to start the month of November. The six game winning streak started November 2nd against Prince George…The Rockets have allowed the third fewest goals against in the Western Conference (142). Only Spokane (137) and Tri City (139) have allowed fewer goals against….Since the start of November the Rockets have lost just ten times in their last 35 games. The Rockets lost ten times in their first 14 games to start the season….Jason Siebert is missing his 25th straight games after undergoing surgery on his wrist….Adam Brown moved into second place all-time on the Kelowna Rockets list of games played by a goalie. Brown has played 130 games, one more than Kristofer Westblom. The franchise leader is Kevin Swanson with 167 games played… The Rockets are 12 for 81 on the power play in their last eleven games (14.8%)…The Rockets have allowed the fewest goals against on the road in the WHL this season (63)….The Rockets have scored 47 more goals at home than on the road.
